The Nanjing Rotorua Town retail centre has been supported by the local and city governments of Nanjing and Jiangning to be marketed as a niche Rotorua / New Zealand visitor attraction and shopping experience on the Nanjing tourism map. It will also cater for the approximately 5000 occupiers of the 2000 residential properties of the development, as well as their visitors and for residents of Nanjing City and Jiangsu Province.

The target market for the shopping development, is the fast growing younger wealthier middle-to-upper class Chinese citizen, as well as creating an alternative shopping opportunity for foreign nationals living and working in the area.

The first stage, of around 90 individual properties ranging in size from 190 ?290m2, sold for approximately 25% above the initial high end asking prices of between NZD$300 ?$500,000. This equates to a similar square meter rate as in central Nanjing City.
